Identifies the p53 tumor suppressor protein, which regulates cell proliferation and maintains genomic stability. Mutant p53 accumulates in cells, leading to loss of tumor-suppressor function and contributing to malignant transformation. Overexpression of p53 often correlates with underlying p53 mutations and can serve as a marker of malignancy. Elevated p53 levels have been linked to higher proliferative activity and poorer prognosis in cancers such as breast, colon, lung, brain, and certain leukemias and lymphomas.
Tissue Block: Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tumor block preferred.
Unstained Slides: Recommended 2 charged slides per stain requested (minimum of 1 slide per stain), baked or unbaked.
Fixation: Tissue must be fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin for 6–72 hours.
Use cold pack for transport. Make sure cold pack is not in direct contact with specimen.
