Pax-2

Identifies a transcription factor critical for kidney development. In normal adult tissue, its expression is limited mainly to the nuclei of collecting ducts and, to a lesser extent, distal tubules. It is present during early renal organogenesis and is expressed in Wilms’ tumor and renal cell carcinoma, making it a useful marker for diagnosing renal cell carcinoma.
