SF1 is expressed in all steroidogenic tissues, including the adrenal cortex, testicular Sertoli and Leydig cells, ovarian theca cells, hypothalamus, and anterior pituitary. Nuclear SF1 staining helps distinguish sex cord-stromal tumors (SCST) from non-sex cord-stromal tumors and is a valuable marker for determining adrenocortical origin. It is best used as part of a panel with other SCST markers, such as inhibin and calretinin.
Tissue Block: Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tumor block preferred.
Unstained Slides: Recommended 2 charged slides per stain requested (minimum of 1 slide per stain), baked or unbaked.
Fixation: Tissue must be fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin for 6–72 hours.
Use cold pack for transport. Make sure cold pack is not in direct contact with specimen.
