Verhoeff for Elastic Tissue

A histochemical stain used to visualize elastic fibers in tissues. Elastic fibers appear black, while other tissue elements, such as collagen and cytoplasm, are counterstained in contrasting colors. It is commonly employed to assess vascular structures, skin, lung, and connective tissue for elastic fiber distribution and integrity.

Specimen Requirements

Tissue Block: Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tumor block preferred.

Unstained Slides: Recommended 2 charged slides per stain requested (minimum of 1 slide per stain), baked or unbaked.

Fixation: Tissue must be fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin for 6–72 hours.

Storage and Transportation

Use cold pack but not in direct contact with specimen. Not suitable for freeze & hold option.
